Last week, our colleagues Louis Papaemmanuel, Head of Office in Brussels, and Alessandra Maffettone, our Project & Operations Manager have been to VivaTech in Paris, France’s most important tech startup event. The event gathered more than 50,000 attendees from all around the world including 5,000 startups, 1,000 investors, and 400 speakers including names like Eric Schmidt from Alphabet, John Collison, Jeff Immelt from General Electric, Daniel Zhang from Alibaba or the newly elected President of France, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, who announced his plans to make France the world’s epicenter of startups.
Our mission was to support young innovators and disruptive startups: we’ve met more than 30 startups with whom we discussed ways to scale up, achieve their market potential and attract funding especially through the SME Instrument from Horizon 2020 which can provide equity-free funding of up to 2.5 million Euros!
Paris is becoming more and more relevant in the startup scene. Last year France saw 590 rounds of capital raising, more than any country in Europe, according to Dealroom, and it will soon open Station F, the world’s largest incubator with over 3,000 workstations. Moreover, the new French government announced promising pro-startup and pro-business measures.
